π―οΈ The Lucky Leap
- The party enters The Lucky Leap, Voss carrying Xaniverβs broken body from the previous battle.
- Ricio Tane, owner of the tavern, gathers everyone in the main hall. Patrons pay their respects to Xaniver.
- In a back room, Father Solemn (tiefling priest) and two other clerics perform a ritual. Candles dim and holy symbols flare briefly, but the gods do not answer. The priests, ashamed, admit their failure: βThe gods are not answeringβ¦ not tonight.β
- Lord Signmonder expresses his sorrow.
- Laughter from another tavern hall interrupts the reverence. Signmonder asks the party to stay and help. Ricio suggests cautionβhunters are likely still searching for them.
π΅οΈ Disguises & Eldvarr
- The party disguises themselves to leave. Voss notices a towering goliath, his acquaintance Eldvarr, seated among gnomes.
- Voss slips him a note signed (ββ€οΈ Vossyβ) via the barmaid, directing Eldvarr to the manor.
- Eldvarr follows the group as they carry Xaniverβs body through the rainy, silent streets.
π Skill Challenge
- The group encounters a city patrol carrying a strange magical tracking tool.
- Eldvarr slips into the shadows.
- Zane tries to find a way to disrupt the magical tracking but fails, and a rooftop lightning strike reveals a wereKnight pouncing on him, slashing for 5 damage.
- Nelvax climbs to higher ground to scout but accidentally guides the party toward the patrol.
- Harlekk distracts most of the patrol members, though not the tool wielder.
- Voss studies the tool to understand how it works.
- With mixed successes and failures, the challenge tips into combat as the wereKnights converge.
πΊ Combat with the WereKnights
- Voss drops his disguise and strikes the wereKnight attacking Zane.
- Harlekk casts Bane, weakening three wereKnights.
- Eldvarr activates his rune, sprints in, and slays a wereKnight with a heavy greatsword blow.
- Nelvax snaps the neck of a wereKnight with a flurry of blows.
- Harlekk follows with an eldritch blast.
- Eldvarr tries to shove another wereKnight aside but fails, then swings wildly with his greatsword, missing the mark.
- The wereKnights begin surrounding the party with overwhelming numbers from rooftops and alleys.
- Zane flies 15 ft up and fires eldritch blasts, but the rooftop wereKnight nimbly evades them.
- A wereKnight lunges at Nelvax, but he redirects the bite with his monk reflexes, avoiding the chomp.
- Nelvax then finishes another wereKnight with a strike, and shadow-steps 60 ft forward.
- Voss retrieves Xaniverβs body.
- Harlekk summons a fog cloud for cover.
- Eldvarr hoists both Voss and Xaniver and flees north.
- Zane flies north towards the party, checking on Harlekk on his way.
- Nelvax shadow-steps again, casting Darkness to protect Harlekkβs retreat.
- The party escapes through the opened northern gates.
π Return to the Manor
- The group reunites with Eldvarr at the manor, sharing drinks.
- Morning is spent mourning Xaniver, giving him a final farewell.
- Lord Signmonder and Ricio Tane arrive with half a dozen battered knights, seeking shelter and bearing news.
